Open Boys Rugby League - 2nd March

The Open Boys Rugby League team played in a Gala day at Tom Knight Oval on Tuesday, 2nd March. There were 4 sides that entered into the day, these included Broken Hill High, An Outback Combined team, Nyngan High School and Cobar High School.

Our first game was against Nyngan and our boys played well but went down 10- 0. We were out muscled in the end. In the second game, we played the Outback Combined side. The boys came into their own and posted numerous tries, including a 5 try effort from Raymond Ebsworth. In the third game, we played the Broken Hill High team and after an early arm wrestle for dominance, our Cobar boys flexed their combined muscle and stamped their authority on the match.

All the boys performed some outstanding efforts at different stages during the day, Eathan Dunlevy’s backing up in the middle, Jack Thomas’s 80m run away try, Raymond Ebsworth’s dominance in all facets of the game and the most mentionable is Jesci Clark’s efforts in strolling over the try line only to fumble the ball in trying to score. In all it was an enjoyable day, and the boys all played well and were in great spirits.

3rd Round NSW Combined High School Open Boys and Girls Basketball - 12th March

The first match between the boys was a scrappy affair with the Nyngan team having little experience. Cobar dominated the match from start to finish and were eventual winners by a score of 58-6. There was an equal contribution by all of the players to the teams overall score.

The match between the girls was much closer, especially early on, with Cobar taking 6-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. With the use of good ball movement by guards Nicola Harbison and Grace Power, Cobar were able to get better shots away later in the game and ran away to be eventual winners by a score of 26-13. Ellie Potter was the top point scorer for Cobar with 12 points.

Cobar will now travel to Bathurst to participate in the round robin section of the tournament. This will take place on the 28th & 29th April (Week 2 Term 2).

NSW Interschool Championships - 5th till 8th February
Year 8 student Samantha Hyde and her horse Solar Exposure (Ravi) represented Cobar High at this years NSW Interschool Championships held at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre at Horsley Park. With 1600 individual entries, 470 riders and over 520 horses it was a very busy weekend.

In the Inter Newcomer Event competition Sam and Ravi had a great start and were in first place following the dressage phase with a fantastic score of 84%, followed by a clear showjumping round to maintain their position. The cross country phase followed and after one mistimed jump Sam and Ravi completed the event in 3rd place, a massive achievement at this Level! In a large field of dressage competitors Sam and Ravi placed 20th and 24th respectively in the two Novice tests.
The Showman competition, made up of four individual phases once again saw Ravi at his best and they finished in 7th position with very strong ridden work.

Western Schools Sports Association Combined High Schools Secondary Swimming Trials, Cowra - 24th February

Gizella Szekely and Georgia Baker recorded PB (personal best time) in events during the day with Georgia also winning 5 of her 6 events.
