Visual Arts

This course builds on the mandatory course in Years 7 and 8 and allows for further extension and depth of study in Visual Art. This course is offered as a 100 or 200 hour course over Years 9 and 10.

Making Art, Critical Study, and Historical Study are related in learning activities with the main emphasis on making.

Students will:

  1. Explore a variety of forms which may include: ceramics, sculpture, design, printmaking, photography, computer aided design, painting and drawing.
  1. Investigate Subject Matter and Themes within a given area of interest and will develop a Body of work based on free topic choice.
  1. Complete Critical/Historical studies and research of a wide range of artists/cultures and topic areas with particular emphasis to be given to the Traditional and Contemporary artforms of Australia.
  1. Be engaged in independent assignment work which may be either theory or making based.
  1. Develop the Literacy skills necessary for self expression.
  1. Actively contribute to exhibitions and displays.

Visual Arts Process Diary

Students are required to have a Visual Arts Process Diary for the duration of the course. The diary must be available for teachers to use in assessment of student outcomes. The diary may include a sketchbook, folder, large container for three-dimensional works, computer disks, slides or combinations of these. Students should use the diary to document their ideas and involvement in art.

Course Description:

This course is designed for students in years 9 and 10 seeking to extend their experience in Music. The knowledge and skills gained in this course provide the foundation for students electing Music in Years 11 and 12. Through the study of Music, students sequentially explore a number of concepts including pitch, duration, dynamics, tone-colour, structure, and expressive techniques. Student learning experiences include performing, composing and listening. Assessment is based on comparative achievement of the outcomes described in the Board of Studies Syllabus. It includes both Formative (ongoing assessment which provides feedback to both students and teacher) and summative (indicating how well the material has been learned at the end of the process).
